TIPS
Home & Office
- If you put on an outfit that is no longer comfortable, start a donation bag- don't put it back in the closet.
- Before buying something, know exactly where you will be putting it and if you really have room for it.
- Tape receipts to impulse or nonessential purchases as soon as you get home. If you realize that you really had no use for the item, you can easily return it. If an item is still in the bag a week after you bought it- it is probably nonessential.
- If it has been broken for years and you haven't gotten around to fixing it yet- you probably don't need it and you can let it go.
- When you pull a folder from the file cabinet, take a moment to clear out what is no longer needed.
Getting Started
- Start small, with a drawer or a shelf, and let the feeling of accomplishment inspire you to continue with bigger projects.
- Don't try to do too much at one time or you could get overwhelmed and end up with more of a project than you started with.
- Get the whole family involved. The process can be fun and quick with everyone present to make decisions.
- Reward yourself for decluttering!
Things To Remember
- Stop buying or accepting clutter from others
- Never let guilt be the reason you keep something.
- Renting storage space is NOT the solution to clutter.
- If you don't use it- someone else can. If you don't wear it- someone else will. Donate! Give-away! Re-purpose!
- The more clutter you have, the more there is to clean and the longer it will take.
- Decluttering takes time. Don't give up! The benefits can be truly amazing!
